a Culture of spirituality

When asked what makes him most proud of his country, our Indian travel guide (a renowned and widely published travel photographer himself) had a quick answer for my wife. “What makes me proud to be Indian is our strong sense of spirituality.” Indian life is dominated by a spiritual temperament., which might explain how nearly 1.5 billion people of various religious decent, can live in such harmony.

Whether Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Muslim, Jain or Christians – worship is an ever-present aspect of life that is pursued very openly in daily life. As it was explained to us, spiritual wisdom has (traditionally) gained an upper hand over material prosperity in most of India. The widely adopted attitude that man is divine by nature, that the divine being resides in every living thing, big or small and that every human being carries within her or him divine potentiality – is all living just under the surface of everything.

Spiritualism in India is a complete philosophy on human life and a ostensible correct way of living and thinking. A spiritual person is one who is detached from the dual effects of karma (success or failure), is devoid of self-interest and who sees God everywhere, in all beings.
